Next generation of engineers that will build smart houses & cities.
On December 5th-6th 2016, MGSU will hold first kick-off meeting of the Erasmus+ project Modernization of the Curricula in sphere of smart building engineering - Green Building (GREB).

Today’s world is facing two problems:
•    Growth of energy consumption
•    Pollution of environment due to energy consumption

Residential and commercial buildings consume more than 40% of energy resources, 70% of electricity and 50% of natural gas. As a result, the combustion of energy resources generates carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. Strategic direction of solving these problems is to build intelligent buildings, which can be controlled to provide optimum comfort to residents in the most reliable, cost-effective and rational way. Such buildings are able to cover at least part of its energy needs, to collect rain water and minimize water consumption. Such building management systems provide managers and residents with any information about the parameters of the building in real time and make it possible to act on them.

To design and construct such buildings and entire cities we need new type of engineers who can find innovative solutions for comfort and safety (technical management of energy physical resources of the building, multimedia and telecommunications, and others.), we also need to use IOT technology to support quality of life for the elderly and disabled.

Therefore, an international project under the EU program Erasmus + Modernization of the Curricula in sphere of smart building engineering - Green Building (GREB) is relevant and in demand.
The project involves 16 universities and organizations from Europe, Russia, Uzbekistan and Mongolia, forming an international consortium. Duration of the project is 3 years and it starts in October 2016.

Innovative part of the project is provided by the need to develop international interdisciplinary programs on cinstruction of intelligent buildings and the exchange of experience in the conditions of the growing ecological crisis, when universities need  to train specialists who will be able to use experience and know-how that are different from those traditionally used in this region. From this perspective, involvement of universities from different regions of Russia, Uzbekistan, Mongolia and the EU would allow us to develop a new multi-disciplinary model of engineering practice-oriented education in the field of civil engineering with an effective mix of traditions in the field of construction, laws and regulations and environmental conditions of those countries.

The main outcome of the project - a new model of interdisciplinary training of engineers. Developed training programs and courses will help to train research engineers with skills in the field of electronics, information technology and automation, able to analyze and take into account all the features and limitations of the design and construction of buildings with regard to their interaction with the environment.

The innovative network infrastructure Network of Multidisciplinary centers "Green Building" (NGB) will be created under the project. Creation of this network will allow to use the latest video conferencing technology for students to access lectures and seminars conducted by leading lecturers from EU universities.

In addition - this will be a platform for interaction between scientists of European universities and partner universities who will be able to discuss on-line their new scientific ideas, with involvement of undergraduate students in this process. Also here employers in conjunction with the university teachers will be able to form a design tasks for international students and to instruct and advise on implementation of these projects. The quality of work of international student teams on joint projects will be evaluated by bringing in external experts. Joint work in this network will increase the interest of students in learning, motivating them to learn foreign languages, culture and customs of other countries, as well as give practical orientation to the educational process.

If successful, the project could be developed into the double degree programs between the universities in consortium.

A lot of attention in the project will be paid to retraining of teachers from Russia, Uzbekistan and Mongolia in EU universities. This will allow on the one hand to change the outlook of teachers with an emphasis on interdisciplinary knowledge, and with another hand - to prepare new courses and to upgrade existing ones, which will then be used in the implementation of new curricula for bachelor and master programs.
